1908 flat in the Dreta de l’Eixample · 112 m²
We open up Eixample flats. Keeping what’s worth keeping.
We design the renovation, get the permits and run the works until you move in.
Visits by appointment, Tuesday to Friday.
Scroll: the works and the day move on together
In the dark.
Project · Before we start
A flat from 1908 with an 11 m corridor and three alcoves the light never reaches. Before touching anything, we draw the whole job: what comes out in yellow, what’s new in red.
You decide What stays: the tiles, the doors, the joinery. And how you want to live.
The flat at night, seen from above: the only light comes from the street lamps, through the balconies of the front room and the bedroom. The alcoves, the corridor and the kitchen are dark. In yellow, the partitions that will come down; dashed red, the new walls.
Open up.
Demolition · Weeks 1 and 2
We lift the floor tiles one by one, numbered, and eight partitions come out. The two load-bearing walls stay: they’re opened with a calculated beam.
You decide Nothing yet: these are the dustiest weeks and the ones that ask least of you.
The yellow partitions sink one after another, from the gallery towards the street, and the dawn light reaches the middle of the flat for the first time.
Inside.
Services · Weeks 3 to 5
The new walls go up and, inside them, new wiring and plumbing from the soil stack. Before closing them, we mark every socket and every light with you.
You decide Where the sockets, the lights and the TV go.
The new walls rise in red. From the soil stack in the light well the pipes grow, in blue, and from the fuse box at the entrance, the cables to every light point, which switches on.
What’s worth keeping.
Floors · Weeks 6 to 8
The 1908 tiles go back where they were, polished. Where there was a wall, a plain strip: the old plan stays drawn on the floor.
You decide The colour of the strip and of the new tiles. We bring you samples.
It’s daytime. The tiles in each room get their colour and shine back, from the gallery towards the street; new tiles in the kitchen and bathrooms.
In the middle.
Kitchen and baths · Weeks 9 and 10
The kitchen moves next to the light well, with an island and open to the living room. Where there was one bathroom there are now two, plus a utility room.
You decide Worktop, taps and tiles, with the samples in your hand.
At midday the L-shaped kitchen around the light well goes in, with the island, the two bathrooms and the utility room.
Full of light.
Handover · Week 11
Eleven weeks later, the afternoon sun comes in through the gallery and crosses the home to the study corner. You get the final plans and what’s inside every wall.
You decide When you move in.
The furnished home in the afternoon sun: it comes in through the gallery, crosses the living room and reaches the kitchen and the study corner. Two bedrooms on the street, the kitchen with its island by the light well and the living room with the gallery.
Shall we talk about your flat?
We come round, measure it and tell you which walls can open up and where the light would come in.
Book a visitBook a visit
We come to your flat, measure it and talk about what you want. The visit takes an hour and costs nothing.
- We tell you which walls can come down and which can’t.
- You leave with an idea of the timings.
- The quote comes with the project, fixed and in writing.
With JavaScript, you book the visit here in four taps. Without it, call us or message us on WhatsApp.

How we work
One person from the studio runs your job from start to finish. You always know what’s next and what it costs.
Visit
Time: One hour
What we do: We go to the flat, measure and listen. No commitment.
You decide Whether our way of working suits you.
Project and quote
Time: 3 to 6 weeks
What we do: We draw the renovation (what comes out in yellow, what’s new in red), choose the materials with you and fix the price in writing, item by item.
You decide The layout, the materials and the price.
Permit
Time: As long as the council takes
What we do: We apply for it. While it comes through, we order what takes time: the kitchen, the joinery and the bathroom fittings.
You decide Nothing. We’ll tell you when it comes through.
Works
Time: 11 weeks for this flat
What we do: We run the trades. Every Friday we send you the report: what’s done, what’s next and what you need to decide.
You decide Whatever Friday’s report asks of you.
Handover
Time: And six months later
What we do: Final plans, what’s inside every wall and a check-up after six months.
You decide Whether anything isn’t as we drew it.
The studio
There are two of us: an interior designer and a building surveyor, in the Dreta de l’Eixample. We do flats and shops in the neighbourhood and nearby, nearly always from the late 19th or early 20th century: Catalan vaults, encaustic tiles and wooden joinery.
- We design and we manage. The work is done by the trades we always work with.
- We take on few jobs at a time, so we reply the same day.
- Visits by appointment, Tuesday to Friday.
How it’s made
- The flat is a 3D model worked out in your browser with three.js, from a list of walls, windows and furniture: moving a wall means changing one piece of data.
- The light is worked out too: a sun that moves with the time of day and casts shadows in real time, and the light from each window, which leaves the alcoves dark until they’re opened up.
- The tiles, the railings and the furniture are drawn in code: no photos, no renders.
- As you scroll, the works and the day move on together. With reduced motion on, the camera stays still and each stage appears at once; without JavaScript or WebGL, each stage comes with a still image.
- It works on mobile, in Spanish, Catalan and English, and without cookies.
About this demo
- The studio, the flat, the works and the timings are made up.
- “Book a visit” doesn’t send anything, and call and WhatsApp show a notice.
- A real studio’s website would have photos of its work. Here the flat is modelled in code; a 3D flat like this and visits connected to the studio’s diary are quoted separately.
- The design is made for each studio: this is just one of many possibilities.
